Happy to be out of a kilt

    What heresy is this?

Let me tell you what happened today....

I was leaving the signshop to work at a local high school. The job was to update a few honour boards mounted high on the walls of the school hall.

Knowing I'd be up a ladder, I timed the job for after school hours when no kids are around.
At the last minute I decided to wear shorts, but took a kilt to change into as soon as the job was done.

Boy, was I glad I did!!

I walked into the hall, ladder in hand to find the stage packed with teenage girls practicing their singing for an upcoming performance.

I was happy to be unkilted, just for once.

Soon after arriving a teacher from the school (who is also a pipe major) came from behind and said "where's your kilt?"

This was one rare moment when I feel a kilt would have been inappropriate, but back to the truck I immediately changed back into the kilt.

This was the second time in months that I have worn anything but a kilt. The first time was earlier this week, installing a sign outside a hospital. I was working with concrete and didn't want it on my kilt.

Even then, a man I'd never seen before walked past and said "where's ya kilt today?".

Guess, I am beginning to establish a reputation

Graham, good thinking. I can just imagine the giggles as the girls watch you climb the ladder in a kilt. They wouldn't have gotten much rehearsing done.

Perhaps instead of losing the kilt, for the sake of modesty, it would be appropriate to put on some briefs underneath. Maybe even some sort of novelty briefs (tiger stripes?) to still give the curious kittens something to giggle and blush about without being inappropriate.

    Graham,

You are worried about the giggles of young girls Oh wait I would be too under those circumstances Magnus may be on something with the tiger briefs, that way you could be known as a "Tiger in the Kilt". That would really give you a different reputation.

That is awesome. You did the right thing, and thought of those young girls first. But I agree with Magnus, I wouldve compromised a little and worn some sort of Boxer briefs.

    Just goes to show.

Pants do have their place in a man's wardrobe.

And that place is generally on top of a ladder or under a piece of greasy equipment

I knew that the ONLY reason Graham would write such a thread title as this would be for a moral reason.

You REALLY need to get a pair of shorts made out of tartan for these sorts of instances. They CAN be made to resemble a kilt VERY easily.

In fact, they can be made to have all the accessories as Carhardt shorts or carpenter shorts. Now THAT would be a nice (albeit temporary) substitute.

There's some very creative ideas flowing here

In fact, I was not regimental on that occassion, nor was I thinking of the girls, but myself. I had visions of the girls clammering for a look up the kilt, me falling off the ladder and breaking something vital

One thing I can say, I dislike intensely wearing anything but a kilt and was glad to get it back on.
What have kilts done to me????

Tartan shorts? Jimmy, Jimmy, how could you say such a thing!!! that would be worse even than trews!

I have to bring up the Utilikilt Workman's kilt. It has the privacy snaps for just that occasion!

Plus the loops, pockets and such that Jimmy was talking about.
