Good hang of pleats and stitching

I'm wondering what the best way is to stitch the pleats and for how far to get a good fit around the butt. :o And what sort of (invisible) stitch should i use for the pleats? (above part)

Maybe someone has good picture's of it?

Thanx! I found that site earlyer, but it doesn't work for me since english is not my native language. There is too much text that i don't understand ansd the pictures aren't that clear either. I hope you can help me to find a clear picture based explanation about kilt making.

Hi, My son has his first kilt and I am sewing down the pleats. I have been told to sew them from the waistband a length of 8". However, even with small stiches the McQueen tartan is not lining up properly. Is there a trick or technique?

I'm afraid to say that Jan died in an air accident on the 4th May this year.
It was largely through some of his writings and pictures that I found of great use and interest in my early kilt days.
I confess to not being entirely certain of his kilts , but his was a lively and natural way of of wearing them.
kiltair , his website: I don't think really exists in a complete form any more, I might have copies of some of the instructions somewhere if you are interested.

Don't forget that the Wayback Machine has archived lots [and LOTS] of old sites. You can still find Jan's site easily:

1. Go to web.archive.org
2. Type users.telenet.be/jbruyndonckx/kilt_making.html [or whatever URL you're looking for] after the protocol in the search field.
3. Click Take Me Back.
4. Click a date when you think the site had the info you want. I picked June 9 2007 on a whim. If you select a date when the info was removed, just click backwards and select an earlier date.
