Contemporary Skean Dhu
Hi all - Been lurking for awhile, but I thought some folks here might be interested.
Cold Steel Knives is closing out their Mini Culloden Skean Dhu. This is a modern version of a traditional Skean Dhu. However, the blade is extremely sharp and made for hard use. I had a simple leather sheath made for it for carrying in my sock top. It works just fine.
I'm not trying to give Cold Steel a free commercial (sorry if it sounds that way!) I just noted that the price has come down to a reasonable level and there probably won't be many left.
I would be interested in hearing if there are other good sources for this type of knife.

Thanks for the head-up. I'll check them out ASAP.

I just tried to order one and they are sold out. The same thing happened back in January; the item showed up on their web site as a close out item, and when I tried to order it, it was sold out. The price was better this time, though.
If anyone manages to get one, I'd be interested to know.
Cheers,
David

RATS!!!!!
I'm going to give them a call tomorrow anyway to see what I can do.
BTW, I also noticed in the close out bins the Cold Steel version of the sjambok. I think I'm going to order at least one. Those are fine tools for taking the heads off snakes, and for reminding lowlives that they have urgent business elsewhere.

You have great taste in knives!! I have a Cold steel 3" Voyager. I have had it for years and have beat the tar out of it keeps coming back for more..
By the way, Welcome Streetcar! Thanks for the attempted heads up!

You are all going to hate me...
I went to their parking lot sale last weekend and traded a utilikilt to one of their guys for $250.00 worth of stuff.
I got the sjambok, and its a really wonderful little thing. All sorts of uses, and the new handles are so much better than the old. The degree of control you have over the striking force is very precise, anything from a simple tap to something that can break skin.
I also got their grivory skean du, which is basically a super tough plastic resin. No cutting edge to speak of but its still a very functional stabbing piece.
Lynn said they are going to be producing a new skean du in metal based on the design of their plastic one too. I'll be looking for that when it comes out.
I also got a couple of 3" voyagers, the Recon 1, 3 kukri machetes, the gurka kukri, battle mace, spetznaz shovel, ready edge, bushman, and their assegai.
Good stuff.
