    In the beginning...

I've enjoyed the other pics here and figure I'd inflict myself on everyone else for a change. My intro to the kilt was through by buddy Rich's wedding back in April. Took 40 years for me to get into a kilt and I'm hooked.

Taro (left) and me (right) and Dom (far right). No ghillie brogues for me -- my dogs are too wide.

I have no idea what I'm saying but we learned two things: (1) big guys look good in kilts and (2) ladies like big guys in kilts. Dom, Chris and Me.

Got my bride a sash to wear with her dress. The other guys caught grief from their wives for not having been treated accordingly. Lesson in there for others.

Recent: on a bloody hot and miserable weekend helped mom-in-law settle into new apt in NJ. Dined in the communal dining hall. Many conversations stopped at tables we passed. I figure given the average age of 88 and corresponding eyesight the comments were along the lines of "My...who's that hairy girl in the skirt with Betty? Poor thing..." Judging by the photo I think my wife was trying to figure out if I was regimental or not..

    Aloha!

    Thumbs up

Wonderful pictures! What is the time span if I may ask.
Things have been awefully hot and muggy here recently in North Dakota and I was far more comfortable kilted than I was in the lightest trousers I own.

It's great to be able to put a face with the posts.

Great shots, just remember any guy looks good in a kilt just see how many of them have a cutie on their arm!

    Thanks gents.

Bill - time frame: April 2005 for the wedding pics and June 25th for the last one.

Other tidbits: the wedding kilt was a full traditional heavy wool Black Watch rented from Piper's Cove in Kearny, NJ - worth renting from there just for the interaction with the staff but you MUST go in person to get the full experience

The black kilt in the last pick is cotton twill and has a "Highland Outfitters" label on it. Picked it up on eBay for $15 as I recall. Not bad and good for generally knocking around. Leads me to have an interest in other cotton twill kilts.

Not shown (yet) is a poly-viscose Black Watch kilt that Piper's Cove and others sell for around $100 and call a 'walking kilt' a/k/a 'casual' kilt or philabeg (butchered the spelling there but I'm too tired to check it). I lucked into that one on eBay too - $25.

I'm not cheap per se but wanted to ease in on the expense and, since I'd like to lose some of the poundage around me, can't bring myself to shell out lots of bucks on kilts yet. The exception will probably be for a Douglas tartan semi-tradional from one of our sponsors -- I can't hold off that Jones forever.

    Night all.

    Nice pics.

It must be nice to wear a kilt and look good. Kilts make us larger than average fellows look positively splendid.

When I wear my kilt, people think I have come to sack the village.
