    Trying to be funny

    The weather was so nice this weekend I decided to wear my Cilt all the time come what may. We just bought a digital camera so the wife and I did some experimenting with it. Some pictures attached .. thanks to Joe for reminding me of the address codes. Last night my pal called around with his dog and we decided to go for a pint to this quaint little pub about 15min drive away up in the forestry. The pub was reasonably full and I went in to order the beers. As soon as I entered I was immediately confronted by a semi drunk farmer sat at the bar. His age .. 60's. He gave me one big stare and than said ‘Look! A man in a skirt!’. I looked him straight in the eye and with a smile told him at least to get it correct ... its a Welsh skirt… and considering he was wearing a Brains Welsh Brewery tee shirt he should know better. The girl behind the bar said ..'nice one'. He did go on a little longer as I was being served and at one point he called it a kilt, to which I congratulated him by saying 'at last I got the correct word out of you, there is hope''. He didn't annoy me one bit and I rather enjoyed it really. As it happened we got into quite a conversation about ‘steam fairs’ the second time I went back in to get some more beers. He’s off to the Dorset steam fair in a week or two. He actually left the pub as we were sitting outside and came and seen my pals dog. He simply then said nice to meet you all, and then went on his way.

    I can't think of a better way to handle those kinds of guys. Well done, Derek!
    The first thing out of my mouth is usually a show stopping put down but, because of your fine example, I'm going to try and be more patient with guys.

    Not me. I'm going to continue to ask, "Are you REALLY that stupid?"

    Or, alternately, "I could change my clothes. You're stuck with that face."

    I can be a real jerk when people start crap with me. It's a good thing we have people like Derek, who are far better ambassadors than I. :grin:

    You're very welcome, Derek. Great pics and I think you did a great job handling the imbibing farmer. A very fine ambassador indeed! :-)

    Were going back to the same pub this evening with some friends for an hour or two. I guess the farmer guy will be there, so it will be quite interesting to see what happens this time.

    Well handled. You showed more grace than I think I would have. Looking sharp in the kilt, lad!

    Yes, you handled it well. In most cases it doesn't pay to get out of sorts with someone. This guy was just trying to look smart and funny at your expense and he failed miserably because you handled it with style and grace.

    By the way, that's a great belt you have. I wouldn't mind one like that for myself.

    It's a testament to the man of wits (the kilter) when he chooses his response. 1, 2 or 3.
    3. He could be confrontational;
    2. he could be evasive; or,
    1. he could engage the would be antagonist in an intelligent conversation. Allow the mouthy one to show his intellect further, as either willing to converse and learn (which would certainly impress everyone, including himself), or preferring ignorance. Yours was #1.
    Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?
