Kilt Carriers question...

Does anyone on the board have experience with kilt carriers?? I'm developing and interest in buying one but have zero experience with them. Are there any pitfalls to watch out for when making a selection... materials, fasteners, features, etc.? will they hold more than 1 kilt? Has anyone built a home made version? I quite like the looks of the blue one for sale by the 'Kilt Store' but was wondering about making a "hard shell" version from pvc pipe. Anyone tried it?

Any and all suggestions welcome...

Hey Blu.
I haven't got a kilt carrier.They seem overly expensive for what you can carry in them. However a tube of some sort sounds like a good idea. I still use the stocking (From the wife) to put my rolled kilt in . Two rubber bands is also good . Maybe a box the kilt is first sent in would be a good starting point.What about those tubes you see art students with they have screw tops I think.

Don't think I'd want to use PVC pipe or any hard tube if I was going through airports. They'd be likely to try to detonate it before you could tell em it's a kilt.

I suppose I could forget the whole thing and just wear two kilts at once!

Actually it's probably a valid concern and I'd not thought of that. In the end, for all that it would get used, it would probably just be a lot easier just to spend the $40 at the KiltStore and be done with it.

I have a couple of these 'Kilt Karriers' which, I hasten to add, I have not bought. Both were gifts from kiltmakers, and I have used them only when collecting new kilts in person!

The two that I have will hold only one kilt each and I have yet to travel away from home with only one kilt, apart from the one I would be wearing at the time. Depending upon the length of time I am going to be away, I will take anything from three to six kilts, and upwards. At such times the Kilt Karrier is of little use.

Well I think it's one of those things that gets used once in a while but handy when you need it.

I'll second that, Blu...my wife bought me a kilt carrier last Christmas from Hector Russell, and whilst I don't use a great deal, it has been very handy when I needed to travel out-of-town with my kilt -- mine is the garment bag-style one with all of the pockets, which is very good for carrying the kilt and and all of the "kit".

You read my mind... I have one but the inside diameter is only 3inches or so.
But you have sparked another idea... I could resaw some some maple or birch and cut it into slats for an octagonal tube...

... buy some webbing and make a shoulder strap. hmmmm... gotta think about this but... it just might work.
