    Not Kilted - yet....or unKilted?

    Hello,

I live in Southern California, and have decided to finally get a kilt.

I'll see what happens when I wear it to work.

We do have a pipe band at the University I work for, but I don't see many kilts walking around...... yet.

I'll let you know how that goes.

I have posted a thread in the "Advice area" requesting that some of you pontificate.

I will say in advance that I appreciate any pointers that you can pry from your hoardes knowlege and feel you could send my way!

    Ed

Greetings Ed... can you be a bit more specific?
You are looking for advice on ...

-whether you should wear a kilt
-whether you should wear a kilt to work
-wear it to work all the time

    What's your goal?

    cheers,
    blu

I think that if you wear your kilt with pride, your kilt will be well received.

Who knows? Being in a university environment where fads come and go with the wind, you may start something new. And once men feel the freedom that comes with the kilt, it will likely turn from a fad to a way of life for many of them. ;)

    Hi Blu,

I am looking for advice on kilt packages. Which/who/where should I get one from and which companies are good to deal with.

I posted a thread in the ADVICE section.

I AM going to wear a kilt (not all the time).

I WILL probably wear it to work.

I will probably not wear it to work all the time, unless they want to give me a pay raise so I can buy more of them.

I just posted here as this is the "correct" thing to do on a board. My real request is on ADVICE.

Thanks for wanting to help out.

    Ed

If you expect to wear a kilt for good (church, nice restaurant, upscale gathering, etc. I suggest that you get the best tartan traditional kilt that you can reasonably afford. As discussed in another current thread, you can dress a good kilt down but it's not quite as easy to dress a cheap casual kilt up. If this is strictly for utilitarian use, go for one of the utility style kilts.

As for packages, it all depends on how much of an investment you want to make. Yes, if you're serious about this, it definately is an investment! I hazard a guess that you will find,as most us here have, that kilts are like beer nuts... one is never enough.

Good luck with your search, Ed

Concerning kilt packages, first check out the forun sponsors, then Google a search for "Kilts" or kilt packages to find what you like and can afford. If you want advice on tartans, check with Mac or some of the others here. When you find something you like, come back here and ask before you order. That way you won't get burned by companies like "Clansman Knitwear" I speak from experience on that one.

    Welcome!

Trust the wisdom of the board. Even on a limited income you shall get more kilts!

Welcome! I work at Stanford, in the Uni Libraries doing IT work. I wear a kilt to work 2-3 days a week. Sometimes I don't wear it for a week, sometimes I do, it just depends on how I feel about it. You'll see my responses/impressions about wearing a kilt to work in the various threads on that topic on the board.

UC Riverside has it's own tatan, so if you work there, you might think about picking up one of those.
