    Black Lust

Before this is deleted, I shall explain (now I have your attention) ;-)

I phoned Kilt store about a jacket today and ended up speaking with a lass with a Scottish accent to die for about kilts.
she mentioned her favourite kilt, the dark Island tartan, I use the word tartan reservedly, because it is a plain kilt from a distance, but close up...wow.

    Here it is: http://kiltstore.net/sr_hedga_darkis...ar:id=vC3ecN2J

Has anyone seen this cloth in real life?
I have to agree with the lass from Kiltstore, it is pretty sexy!!

It's hard to judge the appearance due to my monitor, but it looks similar to the Shadow tarten sold by Stillwater. The stillwater fabric (acrylic)is the only one I've seen in real life.Since this ones wool, I've got yet another kilt to add to my wish list!
There was a post or two a while back on these black tartens,I think they were by Hamish. The veeeery slow response time is keeping me from finding it.

It does look like the black shadow tartan from stillwater. Very nice indeed.

Just copy the address and paste it into your post and it'll automatically show up as a link:

There's not much about the similarities though, just a single mention by bjcustard that it's the same.

    Graham:

Taking a close look at the dark island tartan and comparing it to the SWK I'm wearing I'd have to say they're the same. It is a very nice tartan and dresses up really nice to the point of being formal in apprearance IMHO (as a matter of fact I have a hard time dressing it down). But the wool I think would be an improvement over the the acrylic due to it's ability to maintain the crisp look (my perception only). I think I have the same lust now! :o

According to SW, it will be in the wool just like the Black Watch, starting sometime next month. I never got conformation that it was infact the same tartan when I posed this question about a month ago.

Graham, I have the Stillwater version. Even in the acrylic, it's a very interesting fabric to look at. The tartan pattern shows up when the angle that the light hits the threads is just right. I think it would make a FABULOUS traditional.
All I can suggest is... GO FOR IT!
