    Winter arrived

I spend a fair amount of my time cycling to and fro to work a distance of 18 Km's one way.
I knew that we are getting nearer winter as the mornings (I start at 5am are getting v.cold. So today I doned my equipment and cycled to work in the fine crisp morning air. It's now as I write this snowing with a vengence so my sliks won't be safe to ride home on ....Just hope the wife will pick me up......I knew I should have put on the studded tyres last night....I'll let you know how it goes....
    All the Best.....David.

    So David-
When you say "cycling", do you mean (BI)cycling or (MOTOR)cycling to work? I hear that bicycling is suspiciously like exercise, and should be avoided at all costs!

Bryan...motorcycling in the snow can be fun , provided you're on the right bike...

The snow arrived in Finland too two days ago. Soon it will be a meter of snow and cold like in Russian hell. Damn it, Soon I'm forced to use winter clothing... no kilts

...I'm trying studdless W tires for the first time ;)

We still had summer tires at all the vehicles in work. Funny to let it slide with 4WD

Well you'll all be pleased (At least I hope so ) that I was picked up by my wife. When I got home I spent an hour changing to studs on my Range Rover Crawlling around with a boiler suit on in the snow . Had to fix a flat too... Still I got it done. I'm driving the next two days and then I'll change my bicycle tyres at the weekend.
I went to the post box and what do I find ? A video from Austraila from our own Graham. We were together in Inverness for a day. What I've seen so Far really has brightened my day.
    Great stuff........Now wheres that beer.....

Good luck with the winter in Finland Ackwell. Studded tyres are best on ice...IMHO
    All the Best.....David.

Well, Just to indicate the difference a few (hundred) miles can make: here in the south of England, we are experiencing some of the mildest weather on record for late October. Today the temperature reached 72ºF/22ºC outside my back-door, with torrential rain (very welcome!) and gale-force winds. The leaves on the trees are mostly still green and my lawns are growing like there's no tomorrow but, of course, they are too wet to cut! There has been no sign of frost yet, which is something we would normally be getting by now.

The forecast for the remainder of this week is that it will remain very mild and occasionally very wet.

The odd thing is that the pundits are advising us to prepare for the harshest winter for many years! Oh, well! I shall be alright - I have my tweed kilts!

Here in Wisconsin studded tires are illegal except on emergency vehicles. The "reason" given is they damage the road surfaces, as if the tons of salt they dump on the roads doesn't.
