Friends of Laphroaig?
Anyone here belonging to the Laphroaig whisky distillerys club called "Friends of Laphroaig"?
For you who are not familiar with it a little explanation: You can join FoL when purchasing a bottle of Laphroaig Whisky. Instruction on a leaflet in the tube. You can also get invited by other member of FoL.
Laphroaig bought the land from which they take the water for their whisky to keep the water supply safe. Now, they had helluva lot of land with nothing to do with it (except taking water). So, when joining FoL you get one sq. feet area of land from scotland and nice diploma telling you whict plot you are owning and you can see aerial photo of it Other benefits also. You can read it all on Laphroaig website .
Anyone here already a member?

Sounds great, the only problem being that local building regulations will not allow a house to be built on that size parcel of land because the walls would be too close to the boundarys.
So this ends my hopes of living in Scotland
I've not even seen Laphroaig whisky here, but I'll check.

I am now! Thanks for sharing the info.
I went straight to site and signed up.
Looks like I have a good bit of surfing to do on their site.

Thanks, Ackwell. Yes, I am. I think I took advantage of the "initial offering," although I'd be hard-pressed to say how long ago that was (10 years, perhaps). I've been "aware" of Laphroaig since 1990, and have known how to spell it for about half that span of time.
One of these days, I hope to actually visit "the beautiful valley by the broad bay."

Years ago...and I remember this...I was a kid then and watched the show religiously...we had a tv show called Sgt. Preston of the Yukon....this cat was a dashing mustachioed mounty who, with the aid of his chief sled dog, Yukon King...the smartest frickin dog in the entire universe, kept the Northwest Territories safe from...whatever it was that threatened law and order up there.
They ran a promotion in cahoots with a breakfast cereal wherein they gave away deeds to square INCHES of the Northwest Territories. So here are these thousands of kids clutching very official looking deeds to one square inch of the Yukon and promising themselves that one day they would go and visit their "claim", get a sled dog at least as brilliant as Yukon King and, perhaps, prospect for gold on their piece of the world (with these teeny-tiny little picks and shovels!).
Needless to say, these deeds have only sentimental value these days and show up at nostalgia shows as collectibles...but what a great promotion!
Perhaps I could interest you in some extremely small highland cattle or some miniscule sheep for your claim in Scotland?
