    Looking for review/opinions of TartanWeb

    Hello,

I'm gearing up to buy my first tank, and have been cruising around looking for a maker. I've been considering ordering from TartanWeb, but I'd like to know if anyone has any thoughts or experiences with their traditional kilts? Their website is at www.tartanweb.com

A friend of mine bought a greatkilt for her fiance a little over a year ago, and I can personally attest that it's a good material and a fine garement. She had very good things to say about the service, but a great kilt isn't an 8yd sewn tank, and I'd like a second opinion if possible before I commit to buy.

    Thanks,
    Nick

My first thought is that they're kind of vague about the "craftsmen" they employ.

There's the overseas factor too, even though its Scotland.

I've been VERY happy having my hand sewn traditionals sewn up by Kathy Lare here in the states...using her training in Scotland. www.kathyskilts.com if you haven't checked her out yet.

Pics of the kilts she did for me are in my gallery.

    Hi Nick

I do also make kilts, if you're keen to have a connection with the kiltmaker and worried about who the craftsman is!

I have not purchased a kilt from them, but I have purchased other accessories (dress sporran for my wedding, other items), and am VERY pleased with the service. There was a mistake in one of my orders that was handled very quickly. I would trust them from a customer service standpoint...

When I get my first I'll go to someone a little closer to home. North America is home to several qualified people. Scottish made is quality, but if you can find equally well made garments close by, why go half way round the world? All other factors being equal.

Why not check out www.scottishkilts.com they have:
    5 yards kilt http://scottishkilts.net/store/5_yard_kilts.html
Standard 8 yard kilts (machine sewn) http://scottishkilts.net/store/stand...ard_kilts.html
Premium 8 yard kilts (hand sewn) http://scottishkilts.net/store/premi...ard_kilts.html
    and Irish kilts http://scottishkilts.net/store/irish_kilts.html

I have received great service from them when I ordered a jacket and waistcoat, and am just waiting on a few swatches before I order one of their premium 8 yard kilts ( my first traditional kilt). They have great prices and provide great service.

This thread is over two years old at the time I am writing this so it is understandable that some changes have occured since it first started.

Scottishkilts.net and tartanweb are indeed basically the same company with nearly identical websites and offerings.

I ordered a 16oz 8yd Isle of Skye machine sewn kilt from scottishkilts a couple months ago when they had their kilt day special going (still going on as a matter of fact)---a special discounted group of about twelve tartans made up into a good quality 8yd 16oz kilt. Ordering was easy, my kilt arrived in about 7-8 weeks as expected, and was of good quality material (Marton Mills I believe) considering the price (about $240 US), and good quality build, as best as my minimally trained eye can discern. It fits well and looks great. I will admit that their communication is extremely limited and they are not at all good about responding to emails (totally ignored several of mine) so I would not expect great customer service unless you can get them on the phone directly, which I never tried.

Overall I am very satisfied with my product, but would have some concerns about the customer service end of things if you had any questions before ordering or problems during the process or with your item after recieving it. Just not sure their are any humans there on the other end, although there must be if they can take a website order and turn it into such a nice kilt.

I have had really good luck with The Scottish Trading Company. They know what they are talking about when you ask them a question. They are here in the US and have a toll free number, so none of that 5 hour delay, customs...www.scottishtradingcompany.com

I bopught a jacket and vest for the wedding of a friend (not made to measure, but standard one) at least 7 weeks before the wedding. Few weeks before the wedding I wrote to know if the jacket would have been arrived in time as 6 or 8 weeks were needed fopr made to measure.
At first I did not receive answer anbd I was obliged to write gagain. they said that they had answered to me immediately, but I received nothing.
To cut a long story short I wore a normal italian jacket for the wedding, and the jacket and vest arriv ed at my house more than 6 weeks after the wedding, for a total of 13 weeks.
Surely the jacket is good, the barathea wool is really good, even if it could be tailored with more accuracy, as in the opinion of my mother that is an old expert tailor.

Good products, good price especially on special offers, but really bad customer care....
