Day Sporran?

Will it FUNCTION as a Sporran? Yes. Will it LOOK GOOD as a Sporran for traditional dress? Not in my opinion. It might work O.K. for a Utilikilt or the like. You wouldn't catch me wearing that fanny pack.

for $70 you could get a nice sporran from alot of places that will give you a triditional look

I already have a few traditional sporrans and I am looking something to wear that is not traditional and functional at the sametime.

Very nice and very simple.

Now, as for the fanny pack mentioned below, I wouldn't wear it with a traditional kilt. It just wouldn't look right. Kind of like wearing sneakers with a suit.

I think it is Scotweb who do excellent sporrans designed to be worn at the side-very practical for day wear-driving etc & very roomy.

I think they took the design from a picture purporting to be Rob Roy-but I'd no swear to that.

I by the way have been wearing a side sporran for day wear for some years now-and think it ideal for comfort, convenience and pure practicality.

I believe that sporrans were originally worn on the hip and the dirk was worn in the front of the kilt. In Victorian times the sporran was moved to the front. Victorian modesty. Modern usage has made wearing the sporran in the front the "correct" way to wear it, but it's not the only option. I'm less enthusiastic about a fanny-back sort of thing with a kilt, but that's personal preference. There's no reason it wouldn't work.
