    Fun day at the mall.

My wife and I spent a few hours at the local discount mall today. I was wearing my black "Sporranos" t-shirt, SW Hunting McLeod kilt, black sporran, and oatmeal socks pushed down to my boots. It was not very busy, but I noticed quite a number of people doing a double-take as I walked around. As my wife was clothes shopping I spent most of my time wandering about alone. Quite fun watching peoples reactions to me.

Only one direct comment...an older lady came up to me, winked, and said she just loves to see a man in a kilt. I also caught a couple of comments from other people. One was a father telling his young son that no, it was not a dress but a kilt, which men wear. The other was a guy telling his girlfriend something about it being cool, as his heritage was Scottish.

All in all a pretty interesting day. :-D

Sometimes when I go to the mall, my daughter likes to tag along. She walks about 15feet behind just so she can watch peoples reactions. It's fun, but tends to get a bit tiresome after a while.

I also went to my mall today, kilted, and had similar reactions.....but it gets better.

As my wife and I were leaving the mall, we watched a one car accident as a vehicle drove across three medians, into another vehicle, and then into a light pole. The driver must have had some type of medical condition (she was not drunk) since she continued driving after the collision, and drove into an electrical pole. Her vehicle had broken the wooden pole, and there were sparks raining down. The accelerator was pressed, so the engine continued, and then finally blew through a haze of smoke and fire. There were many people around, and some running over to help her, although the electrical pole was still live and smoke and fire all over.

If you have read my profile, you know I am a police officer, and of course that kicks in. So there I am, trying to get people back, so no one else gets hurt, and trying to assist the driver. I could not get a door open, and someone comes over with a hammer, wanting bust open the window. I could see the driver moving, and I knew the last thing we needed was a bunch of broken glass flying around in addition to the other dangers.

So there I am, in my trusty Stillwater heavyweight Blackwatch, barking orders, trying to convince people to not follow the natural survival instinct, and explaining that I really am a cop. They must have thought I was a mad man.

She was okay, and no one was hurt.

And not a single negative kilt comment.

That story is awesome! I would love to see something like that; a guy in a kilt taking charge barking orders at an accident scene

Wow, that must have been quite a sight! Between the bad accident scene and you in your kilt... I hope the woman in the car wasn't hurt too badly.

It's more excitement than I'd want, but I would think that they wouldn't dare disobey you!
