Livingston to the rescue
Just to follow up, and with a new thread so you would see it. I recieved a letter from Livingston today with a sporran thing, you know short piece of leather with two D rings.
Livingston, a toast to you my friend! It will be worn but not seen tonight.

I must have missed the other thread. Is this the small part that goes on the back of the sporran and through the loop and provides the connection points for the belt or chain? If so, I NEED one! Just did not know where to get one. I have 2 sporrans, but only one of the thingies, which is a real hassle.
Livingston, are you in business for this?

Why not get some small D rings and a hunk of leather and just make some?

Bubba,
You make it sound sooo easy! Seriously, I have thought about it, but a wife, 2 small daughters, a full time job, and other chores always seem to get in the way. Kind of like that 1/3 finished kilt I began well before the holidays. Might neet to run by the local fabric store and see if there is some kind of make-do solution. In that regards I am pretty handy, I have a good feeling for adapting things to other purposes.

KCW, you should be able to knock one out in 10 minutes or less, after all, it's just a strap with a D ring on each end.

After meeting him, that sounds like something he would do.

Does anyone know the "thingie's" name?

And what a toast it was!
That was the first time I ever sat down and the waiter brought me a list of Scotch available from the bar.
Great meal and I even enjoyed the ballet.

A plain leather strap for a day sporran does not (or should not) require one of those little "thingies" - the strap is fed straight through the loop on the back of the sporran. This system also makes it so much easier when the wearer needs to slide the sporran round to one side. We've all experienced such moments, I'm sure!
Dress sporrans usually do need them, however, since the chains have those little spring clips which connect with the "thingies's" D rings, although I really don't see why dress chains should not be fed through the loops as well. A bit too bulky maybe!
