USAK IN arrived!!

Well, another testament to Rocky and Kelly's customer service, availability, and craftsmanship! The Ireland's National I ordered on Saturday, was delivered today! It is one of their "off the rack" kilts, i.e. they make some for in-store stock, in their casual style, which means velcro fastening and machine sewing (at least as far as I know). This is an awesome kilt. I thought that the tartan was going to be a little bright, as I had seen references to a bright green in the tartan, but it is not. I would classify it as a variation of Blackwatch with more green, lose the blue, and pick up some gold. A very nice tartan. I thought it would be only for "holiday wear" but I would feel comfortable wearing it on a daily basis, and the ladies I work with agreed.

The only downside I can see is that the belt loops will only fit a standard pants belt, not a kilt belt. I can guess this is because this kilt is aimed at the casual/special events wearer that does not have the real accesories. I am OK with that, but I wish the belt loops were big enough to wear my kilt belt.

You could just put your kilt belt over the belt loops. My tank doesn't even have belt loops and the ones on my casual kilt have never been used. If the kilt fits you properly then the belt is just there for decoration anyways.

I second Shane's comments... the "belt loops" on a kilt are actually "sporran loops"... most guys just end up putting their belt through them b/c they fit a kit belt. You can actually wear a kilt belt OVER the loops and it should stay put pretty well.

You are correct about the reason we make them 1.5". This is a generalization, but holds pretty true... customers that only want to spend $110 (as opposed to a $500 wool kilt) on a kilt are generally not going to want to drop $75 on a kilt belt and buckle. They're more likely to want to wear what they already own or want a CHEAP belt ($8 for a 1.5" belt anyone?), so that's how we designed the loops. We built our different models with customer attributes and desires in mind.

If you'd like us to change out the loops and make them bigger to fit a 2.25 belt, send me the kilt and a $5 (for the return shipping) and I'll put bigger loops on it for you!

Shane, thanks for the tip. I will try it both ways. Since it is a casual kilt, it rides lower and the regular belt may be all right, although I have become accustomed to a wider belt with my kilts. The other problem is that I am not sure any of my pants belts will go around me and the fabric in a kilt!

Rocky, I replied to your PM, but I will wear it a few times first and see what I think. It is still an awesome kilt, and here is a story from the ladies at work that I related to Rocky:

Funny story, I had you ship it to my work, and when it got here yesterday, I immediately opened it up and was in awe. I then showed it to 3 of my female co-workers, who were equally as impressed (you might get a kilt skirt order from one). One of them was asking what I would wear with it, to the office, and I said I was planning on black hose, belt, and possibly a shirt that matched the yellow/gold. She agreed, then I mentioned that I could see this as a drinking kilt, and a black Guiness t-shirt with Doc martens and rolled down hose would be great. She just looked at the kilt and smiled and said "That would look awesome, too". We then had some more discussion on the kilt, different color shirts and hose that would match, etc.. Overall just a good conversation.

It’s interesting that, after half a century, I just recently discovered that I have Irish ancestors. I had no idea.
And, what does any upstanding member of this board do after such a discovery? Get an Irish Kilt! :mrgreen:

And I did just find out I have some Irish ancestors! Part of my on-going genealogy research.

Thanks. Thanks a lot!!!!! Now I'm in trouble with my wife. Again. As usual.
Just after I decide that I wouldn't be buying any more kilts for awhile, you have to come along and post pics of your new IN kilt. You do realize that I hold you totally responsible for my sleeping in the garden shed until Karen cools down a bit, right?
