matching leathers? also footwear with socks

Ok, I have no sense of coordination. So, I am asking, is it acceptable to wear brown or tan boots with a black kilt belt and/or a black sporran? Should all your leather match when going casual?

Also, do any of you wear over-ankle boots with socks pulled up on the calf?

I always try to match my boots with my belt. As I only have on sporran for the time being I wear that one (black) but I only wear it with my black leather UK or SWK Nightstalker anyway.

It just looks odd to me have boots and belts that dont match, or at least are not complementary.

I also wear over ankle boots with pulled up socks (and pushed down too, depends on the shirt/kilt combo) Generally for what would have been a 'jeans' outfit before the kilt its pushed down socks. For a 'slacks' outfit in BK (Before Kilt) its pulled up.

That is about how I see it, I think brown boots with a black belt will look goofy. I am not certain about a black sporran and brown boots without a belt. I guess it would depend on the kilt and shirt.

I have tried off-white socks pulled up with black boots, and it did not seem right to me. It doesn't look bad at all with socks down, but there is a problem with warmth here in Nebraska. Black socks seemed okay.

I am thinking of options for my SWK black watch and the Irish-American I have ordered.

Like you, I'm kind of fashion challanged when it comes to color combinations, but our resident expert, Ham, has said many times that the belt, sporran and shoes should match.I always bow to his expert opinion,

While you certainly CAN wear the things mismatched, they look much better if they do match.

I have one pair of brown Merrell hiking boots that I wear every day, all day. My job requires a lot of walking and standing, for one thing, and I've worn hiking boots for so many years that if I wear something else for an extended period of time my feet start to hurt, so I wear them all the time. With my brown kilt as well as my black kilt. I like ankle support, so they are over the ankle, and I wear kilt hose pulled up, but in the summer I wear low socks that barely show.

My normal leather belt is black, but it broke and I haven't gotten a new one, so the belt I wear with my kilts now is my chainmaille belt, until I get another.

If, however, I'm dressing up, I do make an effort to match everything appropriately.
