What are these people thinking?!
I was just checking out SWK's ebay store, and found this auction. $91 for the Irish National Tartan Fly Plaid? This appears to be the same thing he sells for $45 in his online store! I mean, cool for him, but three different people have pushed the bid up - the first one from $36 all the way to $75! Don't these people do any research?

Iolaus, generally, no, they don't. Auctions do tend to run prices up pretty often.

I sell a ton of stuff on eBay (finished glass pieces as well as glass supplies) and I'm always amazed at the prices people push them to when they get in a bidding war. I have one book I sell all the time and I plainly state that the bidding starts at $9.45 but that I have it in my eBay store for $13.95 yet the auctions routinely end at far more. The best so far was someone paying $44 for it. People are definitely nuts. When I'm buying on eBay I always check the eBay store and, if the seller has another website, alternate sites as well to make sure I'm not bidding more than I would pay otherwise.

I saw that fly plaid a while back and hought the bidding had gone too high then. It's in silly territory, now.
I only paid $75 for a fly plaid of Locharron woolen tartan to match my tank.

People don't read....that's teh sad part...they simple don't pay attention, see the price, and go for it...

It is stuff like this that always has me asking: "Does anyone really 'win' an auction?"
I guess it can happen. I have "won" an auction and paid less than the going rate for the item. But that is rare. I just can't put myself in the position of knowning that out of all the people who wanted the item, I was the guy that paid the most for it. It just goes against my Scottish nature.
