    Kilted in Chapel Hill, NC

I've been in NC for about a month now, and have been out a few times for pints.

Last friday night I joined some (bifurcated) friends for a pub crawl on Franklin Street through Chapel Hill and parts of Carrboro.

It was a very... different... experience. I thought I was in Key West. If you're ever going to go to Chapel Hill in a kilt, let me warn you up front: do not be taken by surprise when a number of "single white men seeking same" show great interest in you, on more than a platonic level. Not just one or two. Lots.

Maybe the Utilikilt guys being so active in the gay/lesbian community has made them think that the kilt is an outward expression of being homosexual... I don't know... but apparently some of them thought that my nose ring was, too.

Some of my friends took this badly and very nearly started fights over it. Granted, I wasn't prepared for this sort of thing going on all night, but even though I don't swing that way I can't fault them for trying. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained", right?

How are the wife and kids liking North Carolina?

I guess when you wear the kilt, you just have to put up with being hit on by all ages and genders. So many disappointed people.....

While Chapel Hill, NC is a cultural island in the middle of North Carolina, why are you so sure that it was the kilt that earned all the attention?

I'll be the first to tell you that I am by no means a handsome man.

All credit goes to the kilt.

So far so good. Wife is having a bit of a hard time finding homeschool groups to help our kids find friends but a lot of that has to do with the near complete lack of internet connectivity we've had at home for the last month (should be fixed tonight though). Otherwise they are taking to it really well. As we get more and more warm days, they are getting out more and enjoying it.

    Hey Mangus,

You should have been in N.C. in the 60's when I did my time there...'65-70...

Paid a poll tax, took a literacy test to vote. State flag flew above the U.S. flag in front of schools...

    Hope its better now.

You might wanna look around for a powder blue and white kilt for full effect

And, as Arnold Schwazzeneger (?spelling) said in his body building days when he was hit on by gay men...just consider it a compliment.
