    New guy checking in:

I will be the best man at a wedding wearing a kilt. Why, god only knows since the groom is French Canadian and has not a drop of Scottish blood in him. My friends love the idea, but since they are all demanding pictures their motives are suspect.

One of the groomsmen already owns a kilt and bought one for the groom. I have not seen the groom’s kilt yet but it sounded like he was describing a “black watch” tartan until he talked about the gold stripe. If their colors are identical I guess I will just follow suite.

My uncle assures me I have rights to wear the Wilson colors so ideally I would love to pick up a “Wilson modern” 8 yard kilt. Actually he and my father seem to be demanding that I wear the family colors. The problem is dropping more than $500 before renting the rest of the outfit is well above budget and hey dropping $500 on a dress I will only wear once is too painful to contemplate.

All kidding aside, I am not sure what I am going to do yet, but found this place while trying to figure it all out.

Well this board has already been a help before a single response. It looks like I can use the ebay Xmarks section to save a few bucks at the very least.

    COOL

Welcome Paul. I don't see a problem with you wearing your family tartan but I'm not the expert in this area. Keep checking back and I'm sure those in the know will answer all your questions. Perhaps if your father and uncle are that set on you wearing the family colors, they'll chip in a little something to help it happen.

Once you get it, you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Check out a bunch of the online kilt companies www.scottishkilts.net , www.kiltstore.net , etc Both sell some pretty reasonalbe 5 yard kilts.

I am willing to bet that once you wear that kilt for the wedding, that you will try and wear it more and more often. I haven't worn my suit in years, and it was brand new.

    Hi,

Why not shop around and buy what you can for afford for the wedding; as others have said, once you get started there's no turning back then later on you can get a Wilson tartan.

Oh, BTW, welcome to the forum.

    Bob
