Boxed knife pleats!?
What pleating style is this? I've seen knife pleats, box pleats, casual (wide) pleats, Utilikilt and Kingussie pleats (inversions of each other), but this one is new to me. It looks like it is knife pleated, then the knife edge folded back before stitching.
While visiting snowy Salt Lake City last week, I stopped in the town's only scottish import shop and was blown away when I noticed this kilt. With their permission to photograph it, I had to take pictures so the pleating could be studied further - and perhaps replicated... It looks stunning with all those little boxes AND it should have all the "swishing" knife pleats give. Now I gotta make myself one!

I would hate to be the one that had to press all those pleats down properly... that must take a MILE of fabric for all the switch backs. Must have a hell of a swish tho.....
ITS A KILT, G** D*** IT!

Yah, that's military pleating...there's another term for it, I think, but I saw a few like that at the Scottish Tartans Museum, I do believe. Heavens, I can't imagine the pain of pressing that sucker.

Military Box Pleat
I think that Bubba has one exactly like that and had mentioned it in his posts a while back. He got it from What Price Glory I believe. He can probably tell you more about it than I can though. I like it for being a warm kilt but unfortunately not economically(sp?) a good idea for me considering the amount of fabric it would take for my big butt.
Found the link to the thread with Bubba's WPG kilt and pic of the pleats.

Yup, I have a Cameron from What Price Glory. It's military box pleating and, yeah, it swishes better than a horses tail during fly season. Great cold weather kilt but I sure ain't gonna wear it above 50 F.

Thanks. You guys are great. I joined the forum some months after that thread, and missed it. Do you know how hard it is to do a search on this site with keywords like pleats, knife, box, etc?
