    Smile Heya :)

Time to introduce myself - I was browsing E-bay earlier, did a google search on blue tartans, and somewhere along the line this forum popped up. ;)

I'm a semi-retired piper; I used to pipe for my school (as did my younger brother) where we wore the Graham of Montrose tartan. Here's a piccie for all of you.

I've been out of tartan for nearly 10 years now, excluding a Gordon kilt I wore to a friend's wedding in 2003. Ancestrally, I'm supposedly a Shaw, at least if my dad is to be believed ;)

I've finally decided to come out of the woodwork and get myself a kilt to wear when piping or going to formal events, and am trying to decide between wearing the Graham of Montrose tartan again, getting a modern Shaw (though I don't like the red weave), or the (very gorgeous, in my opinion) Pride of Scotland / Heritage of Scotland tartan.

Anyway, great site, and a thumbs up for all of you

Welcome aboard, and thanks for the pic.

I'm just starting the chanter, and my son, 11, is about to get his first set of pipes. Sure, I'm old for it, but I can't wait to be able to actually play something worth listening to.

    All advice gratefully accepted!

    I wear the Robertson Red.

First thing I'll suggest is a pair of workshop ear-protectors. You have NO idea how much your ears will ring after 30 minutes on the pipes ;)

You're never too old to learn to pipe, and it's a great way to build lung capacity.

Welcome from the canyonlands of Arizona. Had a good friend from South Africa back in the 70s....she was ALWAYS saying, "Piss off!" to people. Suppose that wasn't very complimentary.

Go for it. Having come to the kilt-thing rather late in life, I'm suprised that you ever gave it up...even for a little while. You found this forum much as I did a while back and I can tell you that you've got to stick around...some of the best advice and wittiest participants that you're likely to find in any forum.

Welcome! And please, start wearing the kilt again. Just think back to how comfortable you were while piping! Although, it is probably more comfortable in just the kilt and a pullover shirt!
