    Yet another snappy retort...

...okay...when I get an unappreciated remark about the kilt I do tend to just look at the remarker like he's crazy and walk on but it occured to me that a reasonable retort to:

    "Hey, nice skirt."

Might be, "Thanks...and that's a darling pants suit that you're wearing...did you get it at Sears?"

But then I'm a peaceable man and tend to not try to start trouble...

or "That's a darling pants suit that you're wearing; my sister has the very same outfit."

    Hi,

Thanks, got a great laugh on that retort; you're probably right about the possible/probable response, though.

Well, the pants suit works best on a man making a comment. To adequately reply to either sex, I think "No world history in your education?" Would be direct and non-confrontational.

A quick, simple reply would be "Nice pants" in return.

But my favorite is to look down at the kilt and exclaim with great apparent suprise, "Holy cow, I was wearing pants when I left the house!"

    "...where's my pants...?"

I hear ya. Being "follically challenged" (mostly bald) one of my favorite things to do when I'm in the mens' room is to finish my business and walk up to the mirror, grab the top of my head and yell, "...ohmigod...my toupee must have fallen off!"

This never gets a laugh, of course, because nobody knows how to react to it but it's a random act of craziness and at least I get a kick out of it.
