Turner Classic Movies
Don't know if anyone else saw them, but both "The Quiet Man" and "The Rare Breed" were on this weekend. I didn't see all of the former this time around (missed all the kilted parts), but I made sure I taped the latter.
I forgot who mentioned it in one of the movie threads, but Brian Keith plays an ex-Highland officer and cattle rancher in "The Rare Breed." There's the scene where Keith is dressed in his uniform playing the pipes - too bad he's wearing trews, Black Watch tartan trews it's true, but trews. There's also the scene where you first see him - he's wearing a buffalo robe, but the way he's positioned it looks like a furry great kilt at first glance. Or maybe I have kilts on the brain
TCM is also the first place I saw "The Devil's Brigade" - the Canadian Black Watch with their kilts and pipes marching in to the fort. And it's probably a good thing that Richard Dawson wasn't regimental in the bar fight.
Finally "Robin and Marian", with Sean Connery as an aging Robin Hood, was on last night. It wasn't a kilt, or even a leine, but Connery goes through the entire movie unbifurcated - the only Robin Hood I know of to do so.

Now I'll definately have to try to find "The Rare Breed" if it features Trews in the Government Sett -- I'm hoping to purchase a pair of trews this year -- I like 'em! And it's interesting that they put Brian Keith in a pair for the movie -- they actually got one right! Trews were part of an officer's uniform.
btw, The director of TRB was Andrew V. McLaglen, the son of Victor McLaglen, aka Red Will Dannaher in "The Quiet Man".
As far as "The Devil's Brigade" goes, there is a great article here:
http://www.canadiansoldiers.com/medi...il%27s_Brigade
That discusses the history and uniforms in the movie, including quite a bit about the Highlanders featured in the picture. It's worth checking out.
Cheers,
Todd

Rats, I was hoping to catch the Rare Breed the next time it was on. I already have The Quiet Man on DVD. As I'm sure has been posted before, the Duke's kids make an appearance kilted in the horse race scene.

Quiet Man is a good one. I've not seen Rare Breed. I'll have to get that.
