Sporran Pattern

I've noticed in several posts that people are asking for a specific sporran pattern. Here it is.

There are patterns and instructions for both a stiff leather sporran and a Rob Roy style in J.Charles Thompsom book:"So You're going to Wear the Kilt"

I've made both styles and neither is hard

Another way to get a pattern is:
download a picture of one you like,
Print it off
Use the enlarger on a photo copier to make it the size you want
glue it on a pice of file folder
cut it out
you have a pattern

My mate here in Japan is making me a sporran from the NWTA sporran pattern ( Jacobite 1750s stlye ) . I checked out what he has done so far yesterday & it looks fantastic and it will hold everything I need to carry. It is being made from soft grade leather & stained dark brown. I'll post a photo of it once it's finished, it's 100% better than the fake black leather sporran that I bought as that one has no room at all & the dome clip keeps coming un done while walking .

I made a sporran from Thompson's Rob Roy pattern out of canvas, and I like the style, but I made it to small.

I made a sporran from Thompson's Rob Roy pattern out of canvas, and I like the style, but I made it to small.

Sten Rune and I used Thompsons pattern as a starting point. It's easy to make and is practicle in use

That would probably be because Tartan Hiker moved the pic from where he had it to a new location. This thread is almost 3 years old.
