Carrying a Sgian Dubh
Now, I'm counting down he days until September (that's when I've decided to finally get that kilt altered - an incentive to get in shape, I guess) and I would dearly like to get a sgian. I'm just wondering how legal it is to carry one in Ontario. Would it be concealed? Can I even carry a knife around? It'd be silly if I couldn't, but I'd like to check before I do something stupid.
Oh, and while I'm at it, what about a dirk? I'm not getting one for quite some time, but I'd like to at some point. It seems to me, though, that carrying a short sword might be frowned upon by the law...
Anyone here know? Any law enforcement guys or lawyers around?

I can't speak for Canadian laws, but there are some alternatives if it turns out you can't, such as false blade sgians, or sgians with a bottle opener instead of a blade.

Sure, but what's the fun in that? I'm sure there are a few knife guys on the forum that know what I'm talking about.
Still, worst case, I'd just go with a nice wooden fake or something.

Oh, believe me, I'm one of those knife guys  But I realize sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and compromise

Yeah. I hope it doesn't come to that, though.

The best way to find out, would be to go to your local law enforcement agency and ask ... and if you're really worried, while your there, ask about what you'd need to do to get it in writing. Friendly advise is good, but official documents are better when Johnny Law has put you in front of the bench for a misunderstanding.
