Red face Help with some of the lingo...

I am probably not looking in the correct areas for help with some of the terminology, 8yd etc... My avatar is a family tartan and I am interested in a kilt in that tartan. I have probably made this more difficult than what it is, Help?

If your new at this some of the lingo CAN be confusing. Post a list of your questions and we'll answer them.

An 8 yard kilt is one that, depending on your measurements, contains 8 yards of tartan.

Exactly what do you not understand? You're gonna have to give us more than that if you want enlightenment.

If it's our short-hand for the different manufacturers, the FAQ has this:

    AK - Amerikilt
    BK - Bear Kilts
    FK - Freedom Kilts
    FLS - Freelander Sporrans!
MUG - Male Unbifurbricated Garment (not to be used lightly)
    PK - Pittsburgh Kilts
    SWK - Stillwater Kilts
    TFCK - 21st Century Kilts
    UK- Utilikilt
    USAK - USA Kilts

Anything else - you'll have to ask for specifically.

You prolly don't want to use the terms "pants" or "trousers".

    we don't like those much...

    Hey Cousin,

My great great grandmother was Mary Gillis of Skye Glen, Nova Scotia. Have some wonderful descriptions of her from my grandfather. Want to get a Gillis tartan kilt in her honor some day.

I'm working with Kathy Lare of Kathy's kilts. She can find most anything. Deal is that I had to finally accept that Gillis is just a variation of Gillies and that the Gillis tartan is the same as the Gillies tartan(s).

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
