Cajun or other franconphonie kilt wearers?

There have been a couple of threads of late that touched on Cajun country in one form or another. Being half coon-*** myself (not terribly nice slang for a Cajun / Acadien --my gramma would kill me for saying it), I was curious... besides Cajunscot and myself how many more Acadien, Créole, Québecois, French or such kilt-wearers are on the list. By birth, by ring or the back door? Anyone?

(If you're a francophone, that was an official "yoo hoo".)

I know you already mentioned me, but I am Cajun "by the ring and the back door"!

My MIL, Ms. Melancon, was telling me that "coon-***" has become accepted in Acadia and is almost worn as a badge of pride, much the same as "Cajun" was once an insulting term as well.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Acadien on my mother's side of the family, Scottish on my father's. All in all, a good mix, I think.

There are plenty in Québec. Although francophone now, they are originally Scots and Irish.

I seem to remember there being one of those "Heritage Moments" about the Irish in Quebec a while back... or am I way off base?

    Cajun-Scots...

My wife's family legend says that the Melancons (Melansons in the Maritimes) were actually Scottish who assimilated with the Acadiens in Nova Scotia after the Scots turned the colony over to the French, but my MIL has found evidence that the Melansons were actually from Yorkshire!

I did find recently that Melanson is listed as a "sept" of the Clan MacMillan:

Can't argue with that! That's my mix!

It's all good. The French were a mix of Celts, Franks who took on the language of the Roman soldiers anyways. (Anyone else grow up on the comic strip Astérix et Obélix?)

ah, I've always thought that Tartan looked great though. I like the one for Nova Scotia too. I lived in Chicoutimi-Nord, Québec for a while when I was (much) younger... I've been in Texas a long while now and while I adore bluebonnets, I'm not much for the Texas Bluebonnet tartan.

BTW, I figured with a name like Sylvain you had to be un bon québecois. It's always been a favorite name of mine. Figured if I ever had a son, that would be one of the names in the hat to choose from.

Well I wasn't born there, but I moved there when I was 7 and lived there for over 20 years before moving to Atlanta. I married into a "coon-***" family from New Roads.... Speaking of which, my inlaws are visiting next week and are bringing 3 sacks of crawfish.... what will the neighbors think!
