    White Vegan UK Workman's

One of the last of the breed...at least in my size. Got it off the scratch and dent rack (it had been washed, big deal, I was gonna wash it anyway). Did have to have it chopped to my length.

This white kilt stuff is tough to coordinate. Here's my first effort - an Ecuadorian shirt I bought off a street vendor in Albuquerque last summer.

Used gray kilt hose to try to bring out the grey in the shirt....thought red soccer sox would have been a bit over the top.

Plans for this puppy are either to tie die it, or....my lady who lives down on the Hopi Rez says she has Hopi friends who can embroider it with Hopi designs that won't offend other Hopi's if I wore it down there...not sure what or where they'd do it...willing to risk it. Will know more this weekend.

Hopi kilts are usually white with artwork of red, green, and black on them.

Anyway, went to work dressed this way. Nary a comment anymore...just Ron in another kilt...a client in group tonight did ask where I got them all...gave him some sites, but doubt he'd wear a kilt.

If the pic doesn't make it past your firewall and you're curious go to my gallery, click on the UK Workman's sub album, then go to the last pic on Page 3 of the Workman's album.

I don't know, Ron. It may just be my monitor, but I think some lighter colors might've matched up better; that large field of white is kind of an abrupt interuption - almost too bright against all that color.

    Ron,

With the greatest respect, I cannot help feeling that your multicoloured shirt is a bit too much with the starkness of the kilt. However, as we both know so well, it's all a matter of what is right for one not necessarily being right for the next man!

I do believe that keeping things simple is usually the best way. Here are a couple of pix of my identical kilt:-

I picked mine up at Utilikilts HQ when I was in Seattle, on my USA Tour, in 2003 and love it as it is - couldn't bear to dye it any colour.

    (But that's just 'me'!!)

    Thanks Ham,

Memories of seeing pics of you in the white UK are a key reason I went ahead and got it....that and that no one else snapped it up off the scratch and dent rack while I was pondering.

The brown shirt ideal looks great. Silly that when I have this big mass of white, that should go with most anything, I find myself wanting to key in on the brown Utilikilt embroidery color to match things up. Like, I've gotta match things to that brown spot on my back pocket.

Other thing I noticed after first wearing is that it looks like some of the leather dye on my belt comes off on the white waist. Guess it doesn't matter when I'm wearing it since the belt covers it up. Just noticed it coming out of the laundry.

The plans for Hopi embroidery seem distant since there's actually not a lot of area to work on and it'd have more of a front and center loincloth look. Hopi kilts have their embroidery on the right side.

I like it plain too, and think it gives me more options than a tie dye would...even though I'm still confused by the options I can do trial and error to work those out.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Hey there, fellow Zonie,

I'd have to concur with Hamish (should one argue with the master? ), I think the K.I.S.S. principle would work best when matching a shirt with your new kilt. (Didn't UtiliKilts refer to this color as Natural, rather than White?) Anyway, since you asked, in your pic I think the shirt is too busy & the hose too dark, but that's just my opinion. However, natural or white is a neutral color, so you can pair it with most anything. It's also a great shade for the hotter months here in Arizona (which in Phoenix is like 3/4 of the year). That's why I was sorry to see UtiliKilts discontinue the painter's workman. Lucky for you to get one of the last ones!

    Tried some other looks....

First, thought, why not just go to skin? Don't worry about colors, skin goes well with the natural white of the UK.

Then added a soft colored shirt as suggested...

Note the updraft from the cliff, the golden eagles across the river love it.

Then added the soft colors of my new leather bomber jacket..

So, think I'm getting the hang of this...figuring out what works with the natural/white color of this UK.

Hamish, is that your house? Otherwise tell us about the nice looking building!

I think you also have a kilt for anything that comes up. Someone talks about a white kilt, and there you are in a white kilt! Great!

    DALE.
