Kilt Demo at School

Today at the high school I work at, the fashion arts class asked me to come in and talk about kilts and their mark on fashion.
I thought to myself wow! it will all be a few young ladies and their teacher. No it was more intimidating than that the entire fashion arts department show up and the entire grade 9 -12 students mainly ladies.
I almost pasted out I wasn't prepared for this number of students and work mates to be there. I started out with a brief history of kilts , and other cultural garments I wish I still had my fustnella from my greek dancing days. I then went into todays kilts and kilt wearing talked about Rkilts, Freedom, Utilikilts, USA kilts, Bear kilts and yes Canadian Casual Kilts.
The students were loving this the ladies were all listening attentively the guys that were there were interested, especially after I talked about kilted folks like Hamish, Graham and many other on X Markers who wear their kilts full time.
I was asked a million questions about the stucture of kilts, experiences people have towards the kilt as a garment that is worn regularly, going to the bathroom,all kinds of stuff, and I was able to answer their question without a any hesitation.
I brought 8 of my kilts , the one that got the most response was the army green poly/cotton 8yrd kilt and the 6yrd denim the students thought it was perfect for everyday wear alot liked the fabric and the orange stiching on the denim, when it came to the PV kilts many thought it was a good alternative for students don't usally have an income.

I had a blast with all of the students and in return they all enjoyed my lecture. I really wanted to share this with all of you because I feel the world has a few more people who will be more understanding when they see someone in a kilt.

... I feel the world has a few more people who will be more understanding when they see someone in a kilt.

Do you get the impression that they really understand the kilt as a mans garment with a proud history and not just a bit of goth-wear?


Sounds like a fun way to spend a few hours and get paid for it!

I Felt that these students really got the idea that the kilt not only has a pround history but also a new andexciting future. I asked if any of them could find a way the kilt could be inproved on or made for the future so we'll see what theses mindso come up with . Blu the only goth comment I got was about wearing a black kilt.Mcpelle I was kilted all day I had on my Campbell of Cawdor(my wifes tartan).
