Jaw Dropping Day
I went to "Home Depot" with my wife and kids today, in order to take back some blinds and to visit my Dad and friends (long story short, too late, I used to work at "Depot" and my Dad still works there). I went cilted, of course, I wore my "Desert Camo" UK, runners and a black t-shirt. I got the usual looks from people, and a couple of "love the cilt" comments, all in all, a normal day. Well anyway, as we were driving home my wife asked me if I "noticed the lady staring at me?", my answer was "which one?" .
The way my wife explained it is that as we were walking through the store, some lady, who was shopping with her husband, saw me in my cilt and her 'jaw hit the floor'. She stared at me for about a minute or so, not blinking, until she finally noticed her husband walked away. She went to go find him, and keeped looking back at me. My wife thought I stood there in that isle looking at stuff, was just for the ladies benefit. I had no idea that I was getting stared at.
Oh, to the power of the cilt and my 'god-like' good looks.

I've noticed when wearing my kilts to Target, Safeway, Trader Joes, etc. there seem to be three basic reations:
#1. That man is wearing a kilt (how weird, I'll ignore him)
#2. That man is wearing a kilt (Cool!)
#3. That dude is wearing a skirt! (Must be a cross dresser! What a Freak!)
I feel kind of sorry for the #3's. Obviously this is yet another subject for them that they are, yet again, completely ignorant of.

I vote for the "cool" factor. People are amazed that we all look so dapper while wearing such an honorable garment.

Another element that plays into #1 are those that think, "He's wearing a kilt. Why would he do that?"
They think a kilt is only for special occasions and give the same reaction to someone wearing a tuxedo in the same store.

It's the novelty factor....they don't know why we're wearing a kilt, they don't understand why anyone would want to wear a kilt! Oh the ignorant masses! What they don't know they're missing out on!

Up in Park City it is the Spanish speaking that tend to stare. Most people smile or say nice Cilt. Some of the teenage girls giggle. I just look straight at them and smile, they then of course get embarassed and giggle more.
My wife tells me not to tease them.

I've only heard #3 from friends who were messing with me...most of the time it is #2 or #4 "that guy is wearing a kilt, I need to go tell him he is wearing a kilt. maybe he doesn't know"

"A kilt? I'm wearing a kilt? I don't even own a kilt! Jeepers I really should turn on the lights BEFORE I get dressed"
"Well I thought that a grass skirt would be a bit too casual, a kimono too formal, and you just can't wear lederhosen before Memorial Day. So I went with the kilt."
