I'm going for another long hike

In two and a half weeks I fly out to San Diego to begin my hike of the Pacific Crest Trail: over 2,600 miles from the Mexican border to the Canadia border, through the mountains of California, Oregon, and Washington.

I begin in the desert, but this is a huge snow year, so when I go over the mountains (the San Jacintos, Fuller Ridge, Baden Powell) I'll likely see two to six feet of snow.

Then I'll get to the Sierra Nevadas, and may have two or three weeks of walking through very difficult snow fields over the high (12-14,000 feet) passes.

After that it'll be a walk in the park through the Cascades until I get to Washington, where I'll be racing the early autumn snowfall, before I come out in Manning Provicial Park, British Columbia.

The whole trip should take me around five months, and I'll be updating my web page as I go, with words and photos.

Of course, I'll be doing the entire thing in a kilt (once finished, this will bring the miles on this little Bear Kilt to around 5,000).

    Andrew.

    Andrew,

Just wish time contraints could allow me to go with you, I am soooo jealous.

Good Luck and enjoy yourself, as I know you will.

    Talking Mt Whitney

I hope you get the chance to run up and claim the summit of Mt Whitney. I think the PCT passes very near, and it is quite the experience.

Good Luck, God Speed, and watch those bears... ;)

    Andrew.

OK, I gotta ask. How do you do it? I mean, even as a business owner myself, I can take maybe 2-3 weeks off without things falling apart. Have you sworn a vow of poverty? I would love to do a half-year hike.

    Andrew,

    Good luck and Godspeed!
I really enjoyed reading your last hike. It motivated me to get out
and do some hiking here in the Blueridge.
    Have a wonderful journey.
