    Aye Jimmy.......

It's a comment I've recieved a few times in the past and most recently last weekend. I've also heard Billy Connolly use the expression.

So just who was Jimmy anyway?

there used to be a comediean called Russ abbot who played a character called CU Jimmy with red hair and kilt etc. Glaswegians often say "eh" at the end of every sentance this can sometimes sound like Jimmy, Ive never been called Jimmy, although oop north the accent is different than Glasgow, I think its a Glasgow thing.

    it's "Paddy" in Ireland...

I kinda suspected it was something straight forward... and anytime I've heard it, it's not been derogatory at all... But that seems not always the case with these sorts of things.
