    Giving up my kilts...

for the week. Karen and I have a week's vacation time and we're spending it renovating the living room of our house. We've ripped out the carpet to install laminate flooring in a nice oak look, we're painting the walls, we're replacing all the window trim and baseboards as well as adding a chair rail, all in oak; and we're building a new oak mantle for the fireplace.

I started out yesterday ripping out the carpet and baseboards and soon discovered that my UK was getting in the way. So, back to jeans until we're done. Grumble grumble grumble.

Here's what the room looked like as of 10 minutes ago...

    Hey Al,

I have a question, getting in the way how? I would think that a UK would get out of the way more than in, although that might not be what you want either! Could distract Karen from the task at hand...

I find that home renovation is mostly fixing up what the original contractor screwed up or cheaped out on. It's satisfying to watch it come together though. I presume your going to a nice heritage profile trim and baseboard. Laminate flooring is great looking and durable... I' m sure you'll love it! Best of luck with the project!

You pretty much nailed it, Blu! Our house is a 1980-built starter home. Poorly built, no character at all, etc. We're trying to add a bit, make it more inviting to guests and ourselves. Paint in the living room will be light over dark green, divided by a chair rail. We're just trying to decide whether to use stained Oak trim to match the new floor and mantle, or painted.

KCW...I just found that kneeling on the floor hurt a bit more without a layer of fabric between my knees and the plywood, plus when climbing up and down the ladder the kilt seemed to catch sometimes. Besides...I'd rather destroy a pair of jeans than a good kilt.

I can understand that! As I have gotten oldre, I find that I can't kneel on my right knee much at all without some kind of cushion. Just make sure that you wear some nice baggy pants so you don't feel too confined!

Yea!! oh, just a week. And here I thought I had a chance to get another kilt or two at a good price....

Have fun working on the house. My wife and I have redone the kitchens on our last 2 houses. The one before this from the sheetrock out. A kilted open house at the end would be nice

Is that snow I see out the window? It might just be the reflection of the sun, but knowing Calgary, it could well be snow. Even in June

Hehehehehe! I never noticed that when I took the pic this afternoon. It's just the camera over-exposing the view through the window. It DOES look like snow, doesn't it?
