    Hats and Kilts

What headwear do you like with your kilt?

I wear many types of hats depending on what I am doing. My wife requested my gray fedora (Dobbs Dayton) when going out. Recently she and the other women in my life voted on the glengarry as my everyday kilt hat.

My favorite hat to wear with a kilt is a Balmoral. (see photo below for example)

I have 3 Balmoral hats, 1 each in black, tan & dark green (to color coordinate with the kilt I'm wearing). I hate the little pom on top, though & always cut them off, then I spray the hat with a fine mist of water & shape it to my head. And of course, I proudly wear the Robertson clan crest on it.

Often times when going casual, wearing a UK & t-shirt, I'll wear a baseball cap.

Happiness? I'd settle for being less annoyed!!!

There's a hat shop in Santa Cruz that stocks all wool berets for about $10. I think they look great and have a similar look to the balmoral but cost at least $25 less. For the difference in price I can have a bunch of them.

I also have two wool caps (one Galbraith ancient and one Galbraith Modern) from a friend's online scottish shop but can only wear them with my gray UK mocker or Black Stillwater (still waiting for my Galbraith tank).

I usually wear a Seattle sombrero at work. I've got berets and balmorals on my "to get ASAP" list.

I cannot stand wearing hats, but have been photographed wearing a couple!! Don't know what it is, but I feel such a prune when wearing any form of headgear and I know that none of them suits me.

At school we had to wear uniform caps from the age of 7 to leaving at 18 (for the last two years of school life, our caps carried the additional decoration of 6" long gold silk tassels hanging from the centre at the top - just imagine the humiliation!!). Then, in the army for my two years' National Service, my uniform headwear was a navy blue beret .......... to this day, I just HATE berets!!

A little sunscreen, worn at the height of summer, is all I like to wear on my head nowadays - kilts or no kilts!

Rather than the rain doing the 'tin roof' thing on my bald spot-a simple beret with a dragon badge. Easy to carry when not in use, and cheap.

It is a Robertson Hunting tartan, but you can't see the detail of the tartan well in the shade. If only I had a fine photographer like you, P1M...

I got it from Arizona Kilts, in Scottsdale, Arizona (Graeme Niven, proprietor)

It's a loaner for National Kilt Day (Declaration of Arbroath Day) until the one just like it that I've ordered arrives from bonnie Scotland. Don't know Graeme's supplier in Scotland, but I'd be happy to find out, if you like.

While I'm pretty sure it's some kind of sin, I wear one of several wide-brimmed hats when outside on sunny days. Having already lost half my left ear to melanoma, fashion always takes a back seat to safety.

However, I kind of like the way it looks sometimes. Here is the only recent picture I have of my self kilted/hatted.

Me, stepfather and kids at Smokey Mnts. National Park. As I was just outside of Pigeon Forge, TN (home of Dollywood) I thought the Cowboy hat was appropriate.
