Sweetheart Abbey!
here ai am wi Ceilidh at Sweetheart Abbey....
it is a late 13th Century Cistercian abbey founded by Lady Devorgilla....
in memory of her husband John Balliol....
Lady Devorgilla is buried here wi' a casket containing her husband's embalmed heart....
he died in the Crusades...

I can imagine how grand it must have been with the roof & everything still intact.

I always have such mixed emotions when I look at pictures of ruined abbeys and churches. They're so beautiful now, but I almost weep when I think of how beautiful they'd be if they were still in all their resplendent glory.
Robertson, do you happen ta ken when it was abandoned?

Great pics, that architecture looks fabulous. I do love the old ruins and buildings with history. Part of the reason I travel the world.
