    I love my job...

As some of you know, I made the decision to start wearing a kilt just after Christmas and have been mostly kilted in the classroom since then at the community college where I teach. Recently, I was asked to be part of a search committee for a top level administration position here on campus. I have been attending all meetings kilted - and today we began the candidate interview process - so I dressed just a bit more "kilted" formal. Oh yeah, the person we hire will be my bosses boss - so I guess that makes that person my "big" boss... so I thought "what the heck - they might as well get used to seeing me in a kilt... lets just see what happens."

At no time during this process has any of 14 committee members suggested I change my attire for the interview process and several have been very supportive - one colleague even said "you were born to wear a kilt." I feel very lucky to work in such a forward thinking place. Its true... I love my job!

Excellent story....I'd love to be able to do that here!

    I agree - you're lucky.

I work from home full-time, so I don't have to wear anything if I don't want to get dressed, but I do miss interaction with other people face-to-face instead of via phone or chat or e-mail.

The plus side to this is that nobody complains about anything I wear - or not.

Great story, pdcorlis. I wore trousers to the municipal office where I worked until I had a leg injury and rather than go off sick I first went to the office kilted in January, 2003. Management, staff and public were so supportive that I continued to wear the kilt one or two days per week after the injury healed until I was granted my retiral in July 2004. After I retired they took me back on as a part time consultant in the court service and I wear the kilt to work more often than not.

It is wonderful to get support from the powers-that-be. I've been kilted here for about 6 weeks about 90% of the time, and at no time has anyone, from the Managing Partner down to our Human Resources Coordinator, said anything negative. It's either very positive or no comment at all. It's a fantastic feeling and I'm so glad you're getting to experience it!

Lucky indeed, hope the new boss excepts the kilt.

I agree, community colleges are mellow places to work. I've been kilted fulltime at work since last August. As a techie, we're expected to be out of the ordinary. It also helps that our college president is Scottish. She has complimented me on my assortment of kilts. We are lucky lads!

I had been specifically "requested" not to wear a kilt while teaching at a CC. I complied for nearly 2 years, then last Feb I decided that since we had a new president (it had been my dept chair's fear of the old pres' reaction that fuled the "request") I started teaching kilted. No reaction, but I haven't taught since Feb either. Additionally, I received a copy of the "dress code" last week (it was sent to everybody, I wasn't singled out), and unless I want to call it a skirt I'm not sure I fit the dress code (I'm also supposed to wear a jacket and tie - what fun).

Awesome Man, congrats on the steering committee too.

I work in the NYC Board of Ed as a teacher and wore my first kilt on St. Pat's day. I now have two UK's and more on the way. It was remarked that I now go to work kilted "more often than not" and was then congratulated upon the size of my "heart". (I work in the south Bronx)

I was then asked "Has any of the administration said anything to you?" and I was able to answer "No"

My Principal has seen me kilted on several occasions, in fact one day called me into her office so she could observe me in my Black Watch Sport Kilt (ugh) on Tartan day. So, my "Big Boss" is cool with it, and my boss, or Assistant Principal mentioned in an aside yesterday that she was unhappy with what some people wore on her floor. She could have been talking about me, but since I always dress well when kilted (and how can you not really?) I wore a kilt again today.

It is truly a great experience to have the freedom to be free at work. PD, I salute you!!

Thanks for the kind words - but I don't think I've done anything special, I do however realize I work at a very special place. I'm a lucky guy... I wish all could be so lucky.
