Great Kilted Night
The county Economic Opportunity Commision (low rent housing, food pantries, soup kitchens, etc,) had their big annual fundraiser last night and a group of us were asked to serve as hosts, etc for about 350 guests. Of course, we all wore our kilts as reps for the AOH in Saratoga, NY. The response was soooo positive from everyone. Besides the usual questions about being Scots or whether we were there to play pipes, I fielded lots of questions about buying kilts and picking tartans. One lady said that she would like to see her husband wear a kilt but he was Polish and she didn't know that it was OK for anyone to wear a kilt. I directed quite a few people to this site to find answers to their many questions. It was a $100 per plate dinner with about $30,000 raised in auctions so it wasn't exactly the college girls who were intersted but it was fun anyway.
Here's the obligatory pic: (I'm in the center in my MacDonald and white rabbit sporran):

Hi,
Sounds like a very rewarding evening and great publicity for kilt wearing, in general; well done.
Great pic; wondered if by chance you knew what tartan the second man from the left is wearing? I have been looking at a few Irish county tartans and wondered if his was one.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.

If it's the fellow in the grey tweed day jacket and green polo shirt you're referring to, the tartan appears (and mind I said appears) to be the Cumming Hunting tartan.
Cheers,
Todd

Being that his name is Cummings that would probably be appropriate. I will see him tonight and ask hime about the tartan. He's usually very traditional with his tartans.

Very good -- always good to see someone wearing "your" tartan!

Grat pic, ckelly. I was in Saratoga Springs a couple weeks ago for a conference at the Gideon Putnam Hotel. Didn't bring a kilt this time out, though.
