    Doublet Buttons

I have a bit of a dilemma. I looked for a place to buy the square buttons for the montrose doublet I'm working on. Problem is, from the place I found, I'd end up paying over $50 for the blasted buttons! Considering I still need to buy the wool and a few other items of the outfit, I'd balk at paying that much for buttons. I found some nice pewter buttons at a store in town with a thistle on them, but they're round. Would it be terribly improper for me to use round buttons on the doublet, and if so, where could I find square buttons for less?

I've got some nice shiney pewter diamond shaped buttons with thistles on them in the museum gift shop -- I don't know off hand how much they are, but they are not expensive. I'm not there today, but if you want to wait till tomorrow I can send you details. Or you could call 828-524-7472 today, and ask Ronan about the diamond-shaped buttons we have from Bob Martin -- he'll know the ones.
