Had a chance to hear Rathkeltiar

This last Friday and Saturday (two days ago) Rathkeltiar was in my little town of Atlantic Beach, Fl. at Culhanes. Culhanes was having a one year anniversary for the opening of their pub and had hired Rathkeltair for a two night gig. I was able to make it for Sat. and had the front table that was about 6-8 feet from the band! They are amazing. Neil Anderson, the piper, is not with them at the moment since he has been "called up to serve". I was dissappointed to hear that he would not be with them since I had an opportunity to hear him at the Jacksonville Highland Games in Feb. At that time he was on the reunion tour of Clan Na Gael (pre Seven Nations). But I have to say the band was still phenomenal. Victor Gagnon is nothing short of amazing. I've never seen any fiddle playing with such intensity and skill. I had an opportunity to speak with Peter Kimosh and Trevor Tanner during one of the breaks and get a copy of their latest CD. Good buch of guys and very approachable.
The Jacksonville Pipes and Drums were also at Culhanes earlier with traditional music. The wife and I had a beer with one of the drummers and talked kilts for awhile. It seems as though I was the only one there other than the Jacksonville Pipes and Drum that was kilted.
A great time to hear Rathkeltair. Still can't believe our good luck at getting a place right up front!

    Cheers! Bill

I had a chance to hear them in Knoxville and really enjoyed their music. As I was watching them perform I was thinking to myself, "Self.... That singer looks and sounds really familiar." I had never heard them before, and found myself having a *great* time, even picking up their new CD, Everybody, which has been on a steady rotation in my collection since.

I got home and did some research, only to find out that the reason Trevor looks so familiar is because he was a member of The Bolshoi, a new wave band from the '80s, and one of my favorite bands back then. Small world.

Yeah these guys are great. Sorry you didn't get to hear Neil play with them. Apart from being a really nice guy, he is kind of like the Randy Rhodes of pipes.
