    Bavarian Garden Show

If you want to take a break from Football in Germany, where is a good place to relax? At one of the Garden Shows that take place at a different City each year (at least in the State of Bayern (Bavaria)).

Spring finally came to Germany with the football season and my wife and I visited the Garden Show in Marktredwitz in northeast Bavaria last weekend. The Cities turn one of their parks into a showplace of color. Local nurseries and clubs put together displays (several shown in the link below). The shows start in May and last through September, so the flowers on display change through the summer. Good food and drink are always to be had.

I didn't wear one of my kilts this time, but probably will the next time I visit in about a month. The gardens in the cities, old palaces, and especially in the small towns and villages in our area are one reason we have stayed here for most of the last 20 years.

Wore kilts 3 times last week. Heritage of Ireland to a friend's birthday party on Thursday, Auld Lang Syne Grey (with Argyll Jacket) to a unit Hail and Farewell Friday, and the ALSG casual to Church on Sunday. Found there are a few other military guys that have kilts but aren't wearing them much. May have to try to organize a "Burns 1/2 Birthday" night in July to stir some interest. Barbequed Haggis?

21 July is the anniversary of Burns's death in 1796; you could always have a short comemoration of Scotland's grestest poet and then a "wake" afterwards!

Our Scottish society usually has a similar program to honour RB.

    Cheers,
