just ordered my first kilt
My name is Phil, I'm a computer geek in Phoenix, and just ordered my first kilt.
I have been interested in kilts for years but due to changes in my life decided this would be a good time to try one (recently divorced, new career, and more money coming in).
I just wanted to say hello and express my concerns about wearing my kilt in public, I will be wearing it for late night desert walks at first just to get used to it.
Oh....and I'm at that magic age of 50, when I am starting NOT to care what other people think and realizing I had better start LIVING life whether other people approve of my actions or not.

Phil,
Welcome to X-Marks the Scot. There's a wealth of interesting people, information, laughter, and goodwill to found here. The first venture out in the kilt is always the hardest (until you are actually walking out the door and realize that most people either don't care that much or think it's neat).
Whereabouts do you hail from? We have members around the world and many of us try to get together for kilt nights.
Cheers from Sunny California

I'll tell ya this, with you re-joining bachelorhood, you couldn't have picked a better time to be kilted!!
As a general rule, most women find a gent in a kilt to be far more attractive than most anyone in pants (it pains me to say the word!).
I've a feeling you'll be living the high life before too long! Be sure to get a good sporran, belt, kilt pin, hose, PC....

Welcome, Phil, from Vancouver Island, Canada. I can appreciate what life might be like for you right now - I endured/enjoyed similar things over 10 years ago. Enjoy the change in your life and your new kilt when it comes. BTW, what did you order?
Cheers,
David

Got my first kilt at 52 so you're doing better than me! Welcome to the board and our little but growing corner. You'll be glad you wore the kilt the first time you head out to the local watering hole, the ladies LOVE them. You'll get some wise comments but for the most part the ladies LOVE them. Oh, by the way, did I mention that the ladies love the kilts?

Gee.....I was hoping to just wear a kilt instead of shorts. Can I just wear it plain?
Just exactly does a kilt pin do for you? Where does it go? Who sells them?

"Sunny" is an understatement. At least we're getting some "weather" lately.
(I'm on the southern end of Scottsdale, myself)
Welcome!
