    flash flooding.... got us. GRRRr

Well, for those who are weather watchers, you'll know that the Virginia / Maryland / D.C. area has had a wee bit o' rain.....

The night before last we got 4 inches in an hour at my house. The house we are renting is split level, with a basement / first floor depending on which end of the house you're in. Well, that lovely slope focused the newfound river from the back around to a window...... with water quite literally filling up the window so you looked out it underwater as if into an aquarium. Of course that only held so long before: SPLASH!

Then LAST night while we were cleaning from the previous evening, wet-vacuuming and sopping, and moving furniture, the rain continued...... and from the back yard poured under the WALL onto the kitchen tile, through the ceiling and onto my head via the overhead electric light socket.
    SIGH......

I just needed to vent a sec before heading to the garage to salvage boxes of my books (yet to be unpacked).

    It's just stuff.
    But STILL.....
    Grrrrrr.

did you make sure you hade your soap on a rope? Could save a few $$ on your water bill from the free shower!

all kidding aside, is everyone OK? I hope no one was hurt with all this rain.

    Scotty,

I'm really sorry to hear about your flooding . . . hope you're able to salvage at least the important stuff.

    Scotty,

I'm sorry you've been bitten. We were at the beach for several days and had a good bit of rain but out on the Delaware shore we were out of the main line of fire. When we crossed the Bay Bridge (Chesapeake Bay) into Annapolis yesterday I tuned in the DC traffic on Sirius Radio to see whether we should take the Capitol Beltway north around, south around or go straight through DC into Virginia and home. I could not beleive the closed roads, tunnels and rail lines. Incredible.

We have not had any damage so far but our house backs up to a park with a large creek that drains into Lake Audubon. We are keeping an eye on it and calling to the kilted rain gods for clearing weather. As I type this I'm looking out of my office window at yet another approaching storm that is yellow and red on the radar. Ugh!

    Scotty,
Hope you guys are okay and almost dried out. I got home early yesterday and saw the news. That section of Rte 29 that was washed out, isn't it near your place? I'm at the high point in my neighborhood and three blocks from Rock Creek.

Your need to vent is understandable, Scotty. I hope the worst is over.

4 inches of rain in an hour???!!! Wow!!! Growing up here in Phoenix I can't even imagine that much water falling from the sky. That's half the amount of rain we get in a whole year!

We got it today. Had to evacuate my office this morning. The whole county is a disaster area. I'm pretty sure my wife's car is history.

I've stayed dry here in Frederick, but we have had the rain!

I heard Monday that the federal government in DC was on unsceduled leave because of the flooding, mainly because some of the trains couldn't make it down the tracks.

I am so sorry to hear about the flooding. I'm just thankful that our home and our rental property are both on high ground. But that night we had dinner with friends out in Gaithersburg and had to be detoured 4 times on our way home because roads that we usually used had been flooded out. And these were roads that have never been flooded during my entire 12 years in this area!

I can't believe the amount of rain that came down. It was horrible. Thankfully it's been sunny today.

If you need any help, let me know.
