    Speedos underneath the kilt?

Hey guys and great site by the way!
I have just been given a kilt as a birthday present from my parents to celebrate my Scottish heritage from my mother's side, and, as usual, was told that traditionally it is customary to go commando, or nothing, underneath it. Now, I am okay I think in the downstairs department, but am not that sure about letting it all there to show as it were just yet. And I do not like the idea of wearing boxers or underwear underneath it as I think that would be a bit too personal and revealing. So I have decided to wear a pair of my black speedos underneath as 1 ) they offer coverage where it's needed and 2 ) being black they sort of add to the camoflage of the darkness underneath the kilt to begin with. And on the plus side if the lads and I decide to go for a dip in the pool afterwards I just have to drop kilt and dive in!
Another question though which I hope some of you may be able to answer for me - What exactly is this other thing my Dad has warned me about that some people like to do, something called Kilt Tipping? Should I be worried about it at my party? I won't be the only guy kilted as my mates, although not Scottish, want to get in on the act and arrive in the same attire, although one of my mates thinks that chicks will dig him as he plans to go commando and is 'ready to go when the desire arises'. WHich I don't see is possible with a kilt gettin' in the way.

If one MUST wear speedos, I suppose hiding them beneath a kilt is the least offensive way to do so.

At first...a warm welcome and congrats with your 1st kilt! (what tartan?)

Wearing black speedos or briefs is perfect!

You said it yourself...the black is good camo and because they're short...nobody will see what you're wearing underneath.

About kilt tipping (or a "kilt check" with a cell phone camera) just don't let it happen. When people ask about what you wear underneath just say it's none of their business.

Women love kilts and some get slightly overheated...you'll find out

Never lift your kilt...don't flash...it's vulgar, not funny and disrespectful towards the kilt. Tell this to your kilted friends also...a kilt is not a "funny party outfit to score a date". Besides...when you wear a kilt there's no need to act like a clown...people will notice you anyway.

Wear your kilts with pride and all will be fine.

Hi, as Robin so rightly says, "Black speedos or briefs is perfect." - that is, if you MUST wear anything! When I danced with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society's demonstration team (too many years ago!), black or bottle-green Speedos or their 1960s/1970s equivalent were the required dress when we gave public shows. When absolutely necessary, I still wear the same type of swim brief as I think glimpses of boxers look just too horrendous!

Thanks for the advice so far guys, and thanks also for the word up on it being called 'regimental' instead of 'commando' or 'natural'.
My mate reckons that by wearing a kilt and wearing nothing underneath will get him plenty of 'play' at the party but I assure you guys that nothing will happen as the girls I know are not 'that way inclined' for a quick one and are always responsible with their alcohol consumption. Boring guys I know
I am lucky I suppose in that I am pretty good shape ( turning 21 ) and so have a flat stomach and a reasonable **** that helps keep the kilt up ( thank god for my dad's genes in that department as well - no flat **** ) and all in all I am happy with my physique and am able to wear a speedo with not too much self conciousness of how revealing it is. Which makes me think it will be sooner, rather than later, that I go regimental with my kilt.

A Speedo® under a kilt is anything but revealing. But welcome to the asylum, anyway.

    Regards from Cincinnati,

Unless of course, you're fighting Edward's army, in which case, baring all is perfectly acceptable.

    Welcome to the board.

IMHO just go regimental and get used to the freedom. Unless you are getting especially wild dancing at the party no one is going to see the package, and if they do good one on them. I'm with Ham in that I don't like boxers with the kilt, but speedos, why would you want to punish the boys jamming them up like that.
Other than the speedos Robin has good advice

    Jack
