    Tidbit of a quiz

What "imposible" Scottish food is popular around the world?

    A. Edinburgh rock made from Glasgow rocks

    B. Vegetarian haggis

    C. Bagpipe-flavored dog food

    Answer:

Haggis is a sheep's insides stuffed into a sheep's stomach. Yet a haggis manufacturer is producing a "vegetarian haggis" made with nuts and mushrooms stuffed inside goodness-knows what. But if it's "vegatarian" it has no sheep bits in it at all, so it can't be a "haggis". Of every eight haggis sold, one is a "vegatarian". Very odd.

    A little food for thought.

I've seen it!!! It IS being sold. I even had a free sample (from the same folks selling the disputed North Carolina and South Carolina tartans). It tastes similar to their haggis-in-a-can. Not too bad really.

    STILL, a technical impossiblilty.

Haggis is largely (to be VERY simple) oatmeal, barley, and other wheat/oat products blended with mixed meat bits (not exclusively sheep). It could include beef/cow, sheep, chicken, pork, or any other eaten meat. It is the "left over" bits (could be some good meat or some junk meat). Think more-> Hot Dog content (that is how much haggis can vary).

Could Korean haggis include dogs???

Good question. There may be a recipe for it in the book 101 Ways To Wok Your Dog.

On a more serious note, I've tried the vegeterian haggis from the Caledonian Kitchen and it's very good.
