I miss Pittsburgh Kilts

What an excellent product he made! I read about everyone buying UK's, and I remember how heavy they are, then I think about how perfectly weighted my PK MarPat is! I've really grown to love this kilt as it has become "salty" as we say in the military.

Hopefully all those who never got a chance to experience Jeff's kilts will eventually get to. I'd be so hard pressed to by a UK after owning this one.

I'm not trying to start a rant against UK. I was just thinking how much I enjoy my PK and wanted to give a salute to Pittsburgh Kilts. Hope they come back one day.

Me too! Hope Jeff's doing well.

Worse for me, I gained some weight and have to lose to get back into my PK MARPATs...got both.

If you haven't checked out Steve Ashton's work at Freedom Kilts give it a look. Link above in the ad bar. He does that same special work and care that Jeff did.

Steve's a Marine who moved to Canada. I have his CADPAT and Desert camo...very nice....outgrew them too. Just ordered a new kilt from him for my new massive girth though.

As I sit here typing, I'm wearing one of the last PKs Jeff made (to date, if we're being optimistic ). I was going to order my second the day he announced his retirement from kilt-making.:rolleyes:

Jeff's PKs were custom fit (slight knock*), came in variety of fabrics, and were comparably priced (slightly bigger knock*) to the off-the-rack UKs.
And with the 7/8ths wide apron, my plain, unlined PK blocks those freezing breezes that make winter wear chilly in a narrow-apron UK. (big honking knock*)




*Just so folks don't think I'm knocking UKs - I own 3, and wear them regularly. They are my only non-traditional kilts, at present. It's just that (in my humble opinion) the PK is/was a better product.

I have to say that I am glad to hear you all like his work. It was a lot of the insperation for me making my kilts. Just use everything from his site and dig into making one for your self. It really is worth it in the end. I have now made four kilts, two that are two tone like the PKs and they really aren't that hard to do.
