I don't know for certain, but my mom's father was an Edwards, and that is a Welsh name, so I did get a Welsh cilt in the Edwards tartan. I haven't been able to trace his line back before his parents yet, but I am trying.

My great-great-great-grandfather's family name was Vaughan (a Welsh name) though he was born in Ireland. How long the family lived there is anyone's guess since I can't find any records of when they left Wales. The name Vaughan has survived in the family as a first name for five generations now. Since Derek lives in Wales he would be the obvious person to ask about all things Welsh.

I am a Powell on my mother's side. I always thought that was English, but I recently learned that's more like Welsh, from "ap Howell," or "son of Howell." I'll go with that.

    Aye,

One for sure Welsh line - Bowen

One very probably Welsh line, still being researched, could be Scot too - Lewis.

From my Dad's side of the family, my Great-Granddad was born in Wales (no one know where though?).

If I dig back far enough there's Welsh on both sides, just as there's Scots on both sides. Smalley on Dad's side since about 1050. I'd have to look at my notes for Mom's side.

Haven't been able to actually trace the lineage for my family yet, but Davis, derived from Davidson, appears to be Welsh, based on my research.

Hello Dave ... Please ask away any questions and I will try and answer them. I am born, bred and still living in Wales. I have managed to trace our family back to 1680. All of them resided in Wales for their whole lives. Reading the posts its surprising how many 'Welsh' connections are here at x marks.
