Which jacket?
OK, so there has been a lot of interest in jackets to wear in business or for more informal occasions where an Argyll would be a little too much (at least in the US), and wearing a PC would be like wearing a 3 piece suit to swim.
Now I will be one of the keynote speakers at a conference in Boston at the end of August. I will be kilted, and want to present a more formal appearance than just the kilt and a dress shirt. I want to wear a jacket and tie. It is somewhat important for me, as a keynote speaker, to present a more formal appearance than I would feel necessary if I were just attending, or just presenting a technical topic, as I have done in the past. To that end I have found the jackets shown below. I am considering either my PK in brown/black herringbone (shown at the bottom) or my soon to be completed XMarks kilt. Keep in mind that while this is a purchase for a specific event now, I would want a jacket that would fit a variety of situations in the future, and I have very few "formal" events. Those that do arise, I would wear the Argylll to.

And pull the hose up.

Yep, add me to that list. If this is your first time resizing a jacket to kilt length, maybe try on one of the others first (or buy a $10 one at a thrift store). I thought it would be easy, but it isn't as easy as I had thought. I also agree with Matt that the top two would also made great jackets.

Jamie, your jacket looks very similar to this one, 3 buttons and the lapels are higher than on other jackets. I had thought about just faux flaps for the pockets, and that is probably the way I will go. Lack of time will force me to take the easiset approach.

My vote would be for the light tweed for business if you've a taller build and lighter complexion, at least with the darker kilt. You don't necessarily have to look sombre to be smartly dressed and it is important to present a friendly at communicative impression.
Just my 2 cents.
