    Caledonian 419

This weekend I made a return visit to the Bo'Ness & Kinneil Railway, which is already well covered on my website, but I thought I'd try for some improved pictures with the new camera. Here is Caledonian Railway 419, built in 1907 for hauling Glasgow area commuter trains and now running on the three and a half mile heritage railway at Bo'Ness. A lot of money has been spent on trying to transform Bo'Ness (short for Borrowstounness) on the south bank of the Firth of Forth from a derelict mining and dockyard town into a desirable holiday destination, with the site of the old industries turned into a country park and with the train running along the foreshore offering distant views of the Ochil Hills before turning inland to this station at Birkhill shown here where visitors can alight to visit an old fireclay mine and brickworks.
