What 'universal' tartans do you like?

There are a lot of tartans that can unarguably be worn by anyone, regardless of any clan affiliation or heritage.

What are your favourites, particularly among the readily available patterns?

Two I like are Holyrood and Nightstalker.

    What about you?

Was designed by Lochcarron as a fashion tartan...it wasn't an official district tartan...maybe it is now...not sure.

Holyrood and Highland Granite are lovely also

1). House of Edgar's "Irish National" Tartan

    2). St. Patrick Tartan

    3). Cape Breton Tartan

4). Canadian (no not Toronto) Maple Leaf Tartan

~I adore the "Leatherneck" tartan, but am not about to wear it since I'm not, and never have been, in the service.

With the increasing popularity of kilts, the different mills are putting out several different "fashion tartans". My current favorite is the black/grey/lightgrey shades int he "Highland Granite" tartan from MM...

I also like the Ireland's National [wink] , the "Balmoral Claret" (black/white/grey and maroon fashion tartan from HOE), Stirling District, Ft William, Roxburgh, Lennox... the list goes on.

Stewart Hunting and Black Watch are at the top. To be honest, I like all of them.

Marton Mills is making a Highland Granite tartan? I don't see it on the MM website. I would be interested in seeing this tartan.

I agree with all three of these choices. Very nice.

If an official district tartan can be considered "universal" I'll also add the Carolina District Tartan to my list.

I have a Loch Ness tartan kilt i just recieved from sport kilt. I love the pattern. I also ordered a Scottish National from Rocky at USAKilts I like that patterned a lot. I think next on the list will either be an Irish National for St. Patties day, or Possibly a Clergy Acient since Im a Rev.
