Problem at the golf course
I had an interesting experience at the local golf course today. At the suggestion of my boss I decided to pick up the game, which up until now I never really played seriously before. A group of us went to the local public course for a game after work, and I decided to wear my kilt with a nice company logo polo shirt. The manager of the establishment told me that I could not play unless I changed into appropriate clothing. I stood there for a moment rather astonished then asked him if he realized that this sport was invented in Scotland and the people who invented it wore kilts? He didn't seem too happy with me or my little history lesson. I then asked him if women are allowed to wear skirts, which really seemed to annoy him. So to make a long story short I didn't golf today.
Has anyone else ever had an experience like this before?

Thats the strangest thing I have ever heard!
May I ask the name of the course?

I wouldn't put up with that! You should ask him in what way it's inappropriate! That's rediculous.

Since you say it is a public course, I would file an official complaint with the parks & rec department (or whichever dept it is that manages the facility).

What this person did is totally inappropriate. I would have asked to see their dress code. Many golf clubs/courses will say "collared shirts" and "no short shorts; Bermuda shorts acceptable".
My best guess is you were dressed fine and he was just being bias.
I would not let this person deter you from learning the fun (& frustrating  ) game of golf.

My guess is that you were dressed appropriately and he was just letting what little authority he has go to his head.
Wasn't the "inappropriate dress at the golf course" thing the reason why Sam L.Jackson's character in "The 51st State/Formula 51" wore kilts full time?
What did your golfing buddies do? Did they walk out in protest or play?

...and, by the way, you might let us all have the adress of the governing body of the course...I'm sure that there might be a few of us who would be happy to sent them an email/snail mail instructing them on the history of the game and our opinions regarding Anti-Scot/Anti-Kilt discrimination.

That's almost worth calling the local newspaper and finding out if they're interested in doing a story on it.

Glad it all worked out,
I do wonder what would happen if one was wearing a denim kilt to a course that had a no jeans policy.
